Four Unique & Affordable Housing Options

oneROOF Youth Services is proud to be joining the Shared Living Collective of Waterloo Region.

The Shared Living Collective is a group of Waterloo Region organizations, each offering unique, affordable housing opportunities for individuals in need.

The Shared Living Collective is made up of…

oneROOF Youth Services

Host Homes Program

oneROOF Youth Services is committed to providing for the safety, support and overall well-being of youth who are experiencing homelessness, and youth who are at-risk of homelessness, aged 12-25, in Waterloo Region.

Host Homes and Family Reconnect work collaboratively under the Prevention & Diversion umbrella here at oneROOF Youth Services to prevent youth from entering the shelter system and divert them away from the cycle of homelessness.

The Host Homes Model is recognized as a best-practice Prevention & Diversion Strategy that provides short term housing for youth experiencing homelessness outside of a shelter setting. Learn more about Host Homes, here.

Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region

FamilyHome Program

FamilyHome is an opportunity for an adult with a disability to live with a family and to share life together. Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region has provided this residential living opportunity since the mid 1980s and is guided in this program by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

FamilyHome is a chance to welcome someone into your home and life, providing support as needed, as they become a full member of the home and family. Learn more, here.

karis disability services

Family Host Services

As an adult, you can live in a home with a person or family who can be there to give you the support you need in a family environment. You will be matched with a person or family who shares interests with you, and you’ll learn valuable life skills while getting the help you need.  Learn more about Karis’ Family Host Services, here.

Community Justice Initiatives

Home Share Program

Community Justice Initiatives has recently started a Home Share program for the Waterloo region and outlying areas. Home Sharing is an alternative housing option that allows for improved affordability; however, there are several other needs of equal value that can be met using such an arrangement. Home Sharing allows older adults to stay living in their homes as their needs related to housekeeping and healthy living become more complex. Learn more about Community Justice Initiatives’ Home Share, here.

Open Homes

Community Justice Initiatives also runs a program called Open Homes. Open Homes is a community of people (“hosts”) who offer medium term housing for refugees and live in community with refugees, offering a place of safety, warmth, and relationship for people newly arrived in our community (“guests”).
